This week, NBA community member David Pingalore, a broadcaster for KTLA, quietly revealed a shocking revelation to the NBA community. He claims that the Lakers are actively seeking to trade LeBron James before the deadline this month and that they may have already identified a possible destination for the 20-year veteran.
“LeBron James, according to NBA people, is the top player the Lakers want to trade,” he stated in a post. “Pelinka is close to a suitor, LeBron and [Davis] are both out tonight. She’s looking for the right team to dance with.”
At first, doubters were quick to dismiss the rumor as baseless, but as fans learned of Pingalore’s history of providing accurate information in the past—including regarding Kawhi Leonard’s trade to the Clippers—their opinions shifted.
Although it appears that this reporter has previously provided accurate information, it is currently very difficult to accept that the Lakers would trade LeBron James.
Although LeBron and Davis have not yet acknowledged a possible trade this season—both were ruled out of tonight’s game against the Celtics due to unidentified injuries—the talk is starting to become more intriguing as the trade deadline draws near.
It actually makes a lot of sense for the Lakers to trade LeBron when you consider their current situation. LeBron has not been able to move the Lakers above ninth place in the West standings this season, despite being mostly healthy, and things are getting worse by the day. In actuality, Los Angeles’ downfall actually started in 2020—the year they won the championship. They didn’t have any trustworthy role players to replace the many players they lost that year that contributed to their victory. Subsequently, there was the Westbrook trade, Frank Vogel’s firing, and a plethora of injuries in between.
Therefore, even though LeBron isn’t entirely to blame, he hasn’t been the same either. As a percentage, he was
LeBron would be a rental for any team that trades for him this season, as he could become a free agent this summer. Even so, having LeBron for a few months would have some significant advantages for your team. With his All-Star level of play and championship experience, he can still help a contending team win the championship this season, even at 39. He’d fit right in almost anywhere with his averages of 24.9 points, 7.7 assists, and 7.5 rebounds per game. The Golden State Warriors are without a doubt one of James’s best options at this stage of his career. The Warriors are in the greatest position of any team to gain from LeBron’s abilities because they have an aging veteran group on a similarly strict win-now schedule and a significant hole at the wing position. There is also the Cleveland Cavaliers situation, which could work. LeBron can return home, if he so chooses, and take up a role that has been vacant for some time. The Cavs, who are currently fifth in the East, have a great chance of winning a championship if they sign James. Naturally, for the time being, all of this is just hearsay, and a lot of questions remain.
