TeamTalk claims that Tottenham Hotspur is willing to pay £20 million for the in-form Welshman Joe Rodon, a centre-back on loan from Leeds United, but the London club is also open to selling the player permanently.
Rodon, 26, has been on fire for Leeds since joining the club on loan from Spurs in the summer. With only 11 goals conceded in those 13 games this season, he has assisted Leeds in keeping five clean sheets.
He has played with Liam Cooper but has also developed a great defensive partnership with Pascal Struijk. After three tricky years, Rodon seems to have finally found himself a home.
Ben Davies, a teammate at Tottenham, said he was happy to see Rodon, one of his closest friends in football, making an impression at Elland Road. Leeds then, will want Rodon permanently.
In the summer, Phil Hay claims Leeds initially made a permanent move for Rodon in talks – but were told he would cost £15m, deemed too expensive by Leeds. The clubs worked together to arrange a loan agreement.
Tottenham open to Joe Rodon sale; Leeds need to pay £20m
Now, an update. Spurs are reportedly still open to Rodon leaving permanently, according to a TeamTalk report. This is true even though Tottenham is without options because Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero are not available.
However, Leeds are said to have to pay a fee of £20m to land Rodon. An expensive fee, not least as Spurs would gain a profit of £5m. But there is no doubt that the defender is worth that kind of cash.
It might be a case of having to sell a few players in order to raise that kind of fee. Rodon appears content, but he is a top-notch defender in the Premier League. Promotion may be necessary, both financially and for Rodon.
