EFL clubs are on the brink of agreeing a £130million cash boost from the Premier League but Leeds United may not be in line to benefit as things stand.

According to Martyn Ziegler in The Times (14 September) the nine-figure “settlement” is on the cards after talks over the past year, with sources close to the deal indication agreement is “now in sight.

A meeting with the top flight is due next Thursday (21 September), with EFL clubs then set to meet the following week, and the proposals are set to be worth close to £4million each to clubs near the top of the Championship as the money would be distributed based on league position.

According to The Times, this season each club in the second tier will receive solidarity payments of £5.19m from the Premier League, so that number would be close to double under the new agreement if it is sealed.

 

However, that does not apply to clubs receiving parachute payments, which Leeds United are one of have being relegated from the top flight this summer.

 

Smaller clubs in the top flight are reportedly “refusing” to give up parachute payments under the new system, so how that provision will work is still a matter of “disagreement
