Leeds United have appointed the perfect manager in their quest to return to the Premier League, as players believe in Daniel Farke’s ability to get teams promoted.
The Whites needed to add to their squad this summer and did so with a mix of permanent deals and loan moves to strengthen their areas of weakness following the mass clear-out at Elland Road after the Whites were relegated to the Championship.
Glen Kamara was eager to sing the praises of the Leeds United manager telling Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat (5 September): “It’s a huge club with a great history, great coaches and great players. He [Farke] said he saw me playing.
“I would guess he’s seen me play in a Finnish shirt as well, but also for the Rangers. I spoke to Teemu [Pukki] and he had nothing but good things to say about the coach. That made my decision easier.”
Every signing at Elland Road this summer has waxed lyrical about Farke and his previous work and it is clear from the endorsements of the likes of Teemu Pukki that he is a manager players enjoy playing under and want to do well for.
The former Norwich City man’s handling of the Wilfried Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra sagas this summer couldn’t have been more exemplary, withdrawing them from training when he felt their attitudes had become damaging to the side, only to reintegrate them when he felt they were keen to help the side.
While Sinsiterra did ultimately end up departing Elland Road on deadline day, Farke seems to have turned Gnonto’s attention back to his career in Yorkshire, at least until January, in a manner that very few Championship coaches would have been able to.
It was always going to be a summer of turmoil at Leeds United due to the amount of relegation clauses in players’ contracts, but it has always felt like the calmest person throughout the chaos happening around him has been the Elland Road boss.
While his handling of the transfer window and recruitment has been nothing short of superb he now has to find a way of getting this side up the table, with no more off-the-field distractions, Leeds need to kick on after the international break and get themselves into the promotion fight.
Farke is no stranger to slow starts, his Norwich side that won the league in the 2018/19 season were beaten in three of their first four games. Nothing is won in the opening month of the season and it feels as though United have the right man to return them to the Premier League.
