Leeds United sit eight points behind Leicester City at the top of the Premier League table
Enzo Maresca has dismissed suggestions Leicester City will change their style of play – pointing towards Leeds United as the best “transition” team in the division. The Foxes sit top of the Championship but have stuttered in recent weeks.
Back-to-back defeats against Leeds and Middlesbrough have allowed Ipswich Town to pull level on points while opening a window of opportunity for the chasing pack. The first loss, in particular, saw the Whites outplay Leicester in their own backyard, limiting them to just one shot on target.
Leeds are top of the division’s form table but the underwhelming start means they are still eight points behind the league leaders. Daniel Farke’s side do, however, have favourable fixtures coming up on paper to reduce the deficit further.
Questions about Leicester’s inability to change their playing style when losing have emerged following the consecutive defeats. Foxes boss Marseca has urged fans and pundits to watch “Leeds and Plymouth” if they want to watch a side effective in transition.
“For me, since I’ve arrived, I’ve tried to let them understand the way we want to play,” the Italian said. “I know that’s not easy in terms of sometimes they like more transition games. But if you want to see a transition game, don’t come to see Leicester.
“You want transitions, go to see Liverpool. They are the kings, the best in the world, fantastic. If you like this, probably in the Championship the first two teams for transition are Leeds and Plymouth.
