JUST NOW:Liverpool finally accept to pay €45m to complete third summer signing

Liverpool have reportedly agreed to pay €45 million (£38.8m) to sign Sporting Lisbon centre-back Goncalo Inacio this summer.

While the Reds are reeling from Chelsea’s double swoop to beat them to both Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, they are reportedly in place to sign Inacio to cover their gap in defensive depth.

The latest transfer news on Inacio to Liverpool

Portuguese transfer insider Pedro Almeida states that Liverpool “want” Inacio and “accept to pay [his] release clause” worth around €45 million (£38.8m).

If true, this would allow Liverpool to skip negotiating with Sporting as they did with Mac Allister and Szoboszlai, triggering his release clause before proceeding with formalities to complete the deal.

While the transfer frenzy this summer has mostly surrounded the midfield, Liverpool need another defender as well.

Jurgen Klopp seems set to continue with his 3-2-2-3 system that breathed new life into his side at the end of last season, featuring Trent Alexander-Arnold in an inverted midfield role.
