Liverpool are set to submit a bid for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia amid interest from Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.
The 19-year-old joined Saints from Manchester City last summer and impressed on the south coast despite the club’s relegation to the Championship.
He is now widely expected to leave St Mary’s, with an array of Premier League clubs plotting a move for the talented teenager.
Among the clubs interested are Liverpool, as Jurgen Klopp continues his summer rebuild following Alexis Mac Allister’s move from Brighton earlier this month.
The departures of midfielders Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner, Naby Keita and Arthur Melo have left Liverpool in need of replacements.
Khephren Thuram, Nicolo Barella and Dominik Szoboszlai have all been linked with a move to Anfield, but the Reds are now planning to step up their pursuit of Lavia.
Liverpool’s bid for Lavia ‘imminent’
Speaking to Redmen TV, Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri revealed that the Reds are set to submit a bid to Southampton imminently.
He said (quotes via Dave Ockop): “If it is not this week it will be next week. This is something really concrete.”
Indeed, the Daily Mail have claimed that Southampton received an enquiry from Liverpool over a potential £50 million move to Merseyside.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are said to be plotting a move for the Belgian midfielder. That’s according to the Daily Mirror, who claim the Gunners will put forward a £40m bid for the Belgian midfielder.
However, with the Gunners’ focus currently on securing a £105m deal for Declan Rice, Liverpool might have a clear run at signing Lavia.
While transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has suggested Arsenal’s interest hinges on the future of Thomas Partey.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the Italian said: “Romeo Lavia is in Arsenal’s list and they have had some positive conversations on the club and player side, but no official bid as they are waiting to understand the future of Thomas Partey.
“But from what I understand, Liverpool have opened talks to sign Lavia. Man United have asked about the situation as have Chelsea, so both clubs are informed but they are not yet active on this deal, but for Liverpool, Lavia is one of the players they are considering.
