Liverpool are widely expected to splash the cash in the summer transfer window as they look to bounce back from their disappointing Premier League season next time around.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could benefit from saying goodbye to a number of his Reds stars in order to help fund a money-spinning triple deal when the transfer window finally re-opens next month. The Merseyside giants are widely expected to spend heavily over the coming weeks in order to boost their hopes of returning to Premier League title contention when the new campaign gets underway in August.
Liverpool have already let go of several first-team players ahead of the summer window, with the likes of Roberto Firmino and James Milner set to officially leave the club upon the expiry of their contracts at the end of next month. However, it seems clear that the Reds could reap the rewards of selling more players with the aim of raising money to bankroll three high-profile deals.
Alexis Mac Allister is thought to be close to joining the six-time European champions from Brighton in a deal worth around £70million, while talks have also started regarding the capture of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone, according to the Daily Mail. Nice starlet Khephren Thuram is believed to be another target for Liverpool ahead of next season, with L’Equipe claiming that Anfield chiefs have already started to put the wheels in motion over a potential summer move to the Premier League.
All three deals would reportedly cost Liverpool around £150m in total, which suggests that a number of fringe players could be shipped out to make way for new arrivals between now and the start of next season. Fabio Carvalho could be among those set for the chopping block in the near future, with the former Fulham ace having fallen out of favour with Klopp since the turn of the year.
Carvalho played 16 times for Liverpool before the World Cup break over the winter but has registered just five appearances over the last five months, prompting speculation over his long-term future with the Reds in recent days. He is valued at £20m by Transfermarkt and his sale could go a long way to funding Liverpool’s summer business if they can recoup the entirety of that fee when the bidding opens in a few weeks’ time.
Meanwhile, the likes of Joel Matip and Caoimhin Kelleher are valued by Transfermarkt at £10m each and could also be moved on in order to boost Liverpool’s transfer kitty over the coming weeks. Nathaniel Phillips is another player with the ability to generate some extra funds by way of a summer sale, with a number of lower Premier League clubs likely to be interested in taking him on a permanent basis next season.
Liverpool could raise a significant chunk of money to increase their transfer budget by getting rid of all four players this summer, while the wages saved from the departures of Firmino and Milner would go a long way to lining the pockets of their new arrivals. Only time will tell which direction the Reds will decide to go in when the window re-opens, though, as they look to strengthen their ranks in order to put the disappointments of the season just gone firmly behind them at the very next opportunity.
