Wherever it is that Mac Allister pops up, there is a good chance that those more attacking options will be granted freedom within the system to strike up relationships around the pitch.
During the World Cup, where Mac Allister’s role and importance grew as the tournament progressed, he found a good connection with Lionel Messi down the right-hand side of the pitch and appeared in those areas more prominently, including assisting Ángel Di María from the right during the final.
Mac Allister, who Liverpool has paid just $44m (£35m/€41m) for according to Fabrizio Romano, was able to drift into pockets of space and pick up positions on the field where he could link with Messi, providing his nation’s chief dangerman with chances thanks to his threat around the edge of the penalty area.
Mac Allister and Messi developed a bond on the pitch that saw the pair become a hugely important cog in the Argentina side, with the Liverpool man facilitating for the best player of all time.
