Liverpool have reportedly ‘asked to be kept in the loop’ regarding the future of Tottenham-linked Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a switch to the Premier League for the past two years. Now, it seems he could finally be on the move.
It’s no secret that Jurgen Klopp is keen to bolster his defence ahead of next season. Indeed, the recent performances of Joel Matip and Joe Gomez have left the manager scouring the market for defenders
For instance, Liverpool have been ‘in talks’ with Bayern Munich star Benjamin Pavard.
The France international can play as a right-back or as a centre-back and is keen to join a Premier League club this summer.
However, the Reds are yet to make a concrete offer for Pavard. So, they could potentially switch their attention to Tapsoba instead.
According to 90Min, Tottenham are ‘wary’ of their move for Tapsoba being hijacked.
The report claims that one of the clubs who could potentially swoop for the defender is Liverpool. Also, Manchester United and Newcastle have also been ‘informed of Tapsoba’s situation.’
With that in mind, Tapsoba’s switch to Tottenham is far from being done, despite him being ‘willing’ to join them this summer.
Clement Lenglet is unlikely to be brought back on board at Spurs following a mixed loan spell from Barcelona. Elsewhere, Postecoglou will reportedly listen to offers for Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Ben Davies.
Last season, Tapsoba made 47 appearances across all competitions for Bayer Leverkusen. In the process, he helped his team to 13 clean sheets and scored two goals.
A versatile player, he has the ability to play as a defensive midfielder as well as a centre-back. So, he can provide cover in a number of positions.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Liverpool make a concrete offer for Tapsoba. If they do, Tottenham will only become more worried their deal could fall through.
