Chambers set for Leverkusen loan
This is really good news for Chambers, and for Liverpool. Sending a young academy player out on-loan to a Bundesliga side is an incredibly positive development.

Of course, the Reds do already have one young star out in Germany next season, but Fabio Carvalho’s situation is a little different to Chambers.

Carvalho was brought to the club as a first team player, meanwhile Chambers has been brought through the youth teams. It hasn’t been often enough that such players have had the chance to get senior football in one of Europe’s top leagues.

The possibility of an option to buy is perhaps a slight concern, though. The academy is obviously a means of bringing in money as well as developing players for the first team, that’s true. But if Chambers is deemed good enough for Leverkusen, then he won’t be a million miles off making it at Liverpool.

With Andy Robertson turning 30 later this season, the Reds should bear that in mind.

Jurgen Klopp is obviously a fan of Chambers and Kilmarnock manager Derek McInnes called him ‘outstanding’ during his time there last season. Letting him leave the club wouldn’t be ideal.

So, just as they did with Carvalho, hopefully Liverpool can remove that option. A little bit of magic for Jorg Schmadtke to work, perhaps. In the meantime, this really is good news. A really exciting move for a player with a growing reputation.
