Liverpool ‘make £170m Kylian Mbappe bid’ as Spanish press fear Real Madrid transfer hijack

Paris Saint-Germain ace Kylian Mbappe has been tipped to quit the Parc des Princes this summer and head to Spain to sign for Real Madrid.

Liverpool have put forward a £170million bid for Paris Saint-Germain ace Kylian Mbappe, according to reports circulating in Spain. Mbappe has just one more year remaining on his PSG contract and has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer.

Mbappe has spent the last six years with PSG after joining the club initially on loan from Monaco in 2017 before making his move permanent a year later in exchange for a £165m transfer fee. The 24-year-old has gone on to bag an incredible 212 goals and 98 assists in 260 games for his current employers and has helped them win five Ligue 1 titles and three French Cups.

Mbappe’s previous contract with PSG was set to expire at the end of the 2021/22 campaign and he was expected to join Real last summer. But after holding talks with the Spanish giants, the ace surprisingly penned a new deal to remain in France.

His current contract was signed for an initial two-year period, with the option of a further year. But he reportedly wrote a letter to PSG chiefs last month to tell them he had no intentions of staying for a third year. And that means the player will be able to walk away from Paris next summer for free.

PSG will be desperate to avoid losing Mbappe for nothing and have therefore been tipped to cash in on him ahead of the new season. And Real are the frontrunners to land him. But, according to Spanish journalist Edu Aguirre, Liverpool could be set to hijack Real’s transfer plans after presenting an enormous bid to the French team. “Liverpool have made an offer for Mbappe for €200m” he told El Chiringuito TV.

Liverpool endured a miserable campaign last time around and missed out on a place in this season’s Champions League after finishing fourth in the Premier League. And Mbappe could be the player to fire them back to the top-flight summit following their title-winning endeavours in 2020

But Reds boss Jurgen Klopp bolstered his frontline with the signings of Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo last season. And Liverpool have not been known to shell out such vast sums of cash for players in the past.

Virgil van Dijk remains the Reds’ record signing after they spent just over £72m to prise him away from Southampton at the start of 2018. However, if the Spanish media are correct, Liverpool could now be willing to beat that fee by nearly £100m to get their hands on a player who is regarded as one of the best strikers in the world
