Liverpool have held positive discussions with the agents of Ryan Gravenberch, despite his ‘not for sale’ status.
Leading up to the summer window, Gravenberch had looked like one of the most likely candidates to join Liverpool’s midfield revolution. It was as far back as April that the Reds were first said to be in talks with the 21-year-old.
Since then though, the trail has gone a little cold and Bayern Munich have firmly knocked back any suggestion that Gravenberch could be sold. That stance is again reiterated today by The Athletic, who claim that Liverpool signing the Netherlands international hinges on Bayern changing their position.
Nevertheless, the Reds are reportedly happy with the discussions they’ve already held with the player. It’s claimed that talks between Liverpool and Gravenberch’s agents have so far been ‘positive.’
Unless talks are able to be opened with the midfielder’s club though, that’s reportedly as far as it will go.
At one stage, it had begun to look inevitable that Gravenberch would be moving to Anfield this summer. Having had a disappointing debut season in Munich, he was ready to call it a day.
Public comments about his unhappiness in Germany were followed with numerous reports that Liverpool were very keen indeed. But over the last few months, things simply haven’t progressed.
That’s seemingly totally down to Bayern themselves. The German champions remain adamant that Gravenberch is there to stay
Since the end of the season there’s been plenty of upheaval in Munich, though. There are set to be changes within the hierarchy of the club, and it’s still unclear whether previous stances on players will change.
Thomas Tuchel. isn’t long through the door himself. But so far he has kept up Julian Nagelsmann’s habit of leaving Gravenberch on the bench.
As a result of those things, there may still be hope at Liverpool that Bayern will budge. If they do, then surely an agreement will be reached. There have been reports that a fee for Gravenberch could be around £43m. Having signed him for half of that, that would
But it would also be a decent bit of business for Liverpool, too. Gravenberch may not have had the best season in Bavaria, but he’s still a player of great potential. The Reds can’t afford to wait too long, they need players through the door. For the meantime though, they should hang on in there.
