Liverpool ‘set sights’ on €60m ‘star’ who is ‘promising card’ to replace Saudi-linked Klopp favourite

Liverpool have reportedly ‘set their sights’ on PSV Eindhoven youngster Johan Bakayoko, who is being viewed as a potential replacement for Mo Salah.

The Premier League giants are expected to be busy in the transfer market over the next couple of weeks. They are eyeing a couple of signings who could join Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endo.

It is common knowledge that Liverpool are in for one more midfielder, with Crystal Palace’s Cheick Dourcoure, Fulham’s Joao Pahlinha and Nice’s Khephren Thuram among the players they are being linked with.

But they also have their eyes on the market for a new centre-back and Torino’s Perr Schuurs is being heavily linked with a move to Anfield.

Liverpool are well-covered in attacking areas but star forward Salah is being linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Salah has welcomed an approach from Al-Ettifaq but the player’s agent has insisted that he is still committed to Liverpool.

Salah is gradually nearing the end of his career so Liverpool will have to sign a replacement and they reportedly have their eye on Bakayoko, who enjoyed a breakout season for PSV during the 2022/23 campaign.

The 20-year-old – who is valued at €10m by transfermarkt – grabbed nine goals and six assists in his 39 appearances for the Dutch outfit across all competitions last season.

Spanish outlet Fichajes are reporting that ‘Liverpool have set their sights on an emerging Eredivisie gem as part of their strategy to strengthen their squad for next season’.

Bakayoko was previously ‘on PSG’s list’ but Liverpool are now ‘leading the race for his services’. The report adds.

‘Bakayoko is known for his speed and attacking abilities, making him an attractive option for Jürgen Klopp’s side. His versatility up front could add an extra dimension to Liverpool’s arsenal of attacking options.

‘With the transfer market entering its crucial phase and with only two weeks remaining before closing, fans of Liverpool and football in general are eager to see how the negotiations unfold. Despite the moves already made, history has taught us that unexpected surprises can come up until the last minute.

‘In short, Liverpool is looking to consolidate its squad for the new season, and the young talent of Johan Bakayoko appears as a promising card in the deck of options.’
