Liverpool set to complete Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, deal before 48 hours

West Ham are set to battle Liverpool and RB Leipzig to secure the services of Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie, according to Dominik Schneider.

The Fussball Transfers journalist reported that a move to the Premier League remains on the cards for the 21-year-old

Hincapie is a centre-back who’s capable of playing as a left-back and represented Ecuador at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar

Schneider wrote on Twitter, “Interest from RBLeipzig in Piero Hincapié is correct, he was Plan B to Lukeba. No longer hot topic. Transfer to Premier League still possible. Interest from West Ham United + Liverpool FC. After injury back to 100% end of August.”

He’s good enough to be a starter even at centre-back if Aaron Cresswell does not leave and if he does, he’s going to give Emerson a run for his money in that role too.

At 21, he’s still very young and can be moulded into becoming a master at one position where he can be sensational.

Worth considering

The Hammers have been linked with centre-backs and full-backs this summer and by signing Hincapie, they can cover two positions.

Bayer are aware of the interest shown in the defender so are well within their rights to demand top dollar for his services.

It remains to be seen how much the 21-year-old ends up costing and whether or not the Hammers can beat Liverpool to his services.

It is evident that another defender needs to be signed this summer at the London Stadium.

In other West Ham news, the club have now opened advanced talks with a Premier League player who appears to be open on leaving his side this summer.
