Liverpool are scouring the market trying to find the right player at the right price to join Jurgen Klopp’s revolutionised midfield.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai may have arrived at Liverpool in quick succession, but things have slowed down with the Reds trying to find their third midfield signing and they may have just been dealt a blow in their plans. A host of names have been linked with moves to Liverpool such as Romeo Lavia, Cheick Doucoure and Ryan Gravenberch.
But the Reds are continuing to look at alternative options with Fulham star Joao Palhinha also touted as an option. The Portuguese midfielder was a target for Liverpool last summer before Fulham swooped in to sign him.
However, Liverpool may have to move on from Palhinha this summer with the 28-year-old picking up a nasty shoulder injury in a pre-season friendly this week. Fulham boss Marco Silva confirmed it was a “serious” injury and that Palhinha had “probably dislocated” his shoulder.
“Unfortunately, it doesn’t look good. It’s serious, but let’s hope it’s not too serious,” Silva told Fulham’s official website. “It’s his shoulder, probably dislocated. Tomorrow he’s going to do a scan and it will be more clear for me to update you on the situation
Let’s hope it’s not another long-term injury for us.” While Palhinha may not have been high on Liverpool’s shortlist, particularly with Fulham demanding around £80m, his injury no doubt shrinks Klopp’s options in the market.
It’s the transfer reality every manager fears in the summer transfer window with players picking up new injuries as pre-season gets underway. Liverpool experienced their own injury woes 12 months ago with a host of midfielders suffering knocks in pre-season training
