Liverpool Bruno Guimaraes leaving Newcastle United this summer would be the ‘shock of the summer
Bruno has been linked with a move to Liverpool and the Reds are mentioned once again in journalist Ben Jacobs’ most recent column for CaughtOffside. But, according to Jacobs, there’s virtually no chance the 25-year-old leaves St James’ Park.
“Bruno Guimaraes is highly unlikely to leave Newcastle this summer,” explained the journalist. “There is confidence at the club he will extend his contract, but also no urgency. There’s a calmness because his current deal doesn’t expire until 2026.
“Guimaraes has loved the move to Newcastle since joining from Lyon in January 2022, and has Champions League football next season. There is absolutely no reason for him to leave right now. Even the player has said this directly, indicating he wants to win titles with Newcastle.
“Real Madrid, Liverpool and Barcelona have all been linked. That’s normal because Guimaraes is a fantastic player and character who has quickly become a fan favourite at St James’ Park.
It wouldn’t surprise me if a new deal is signed. That’s Newcastle’s intention. But even if nothing happens imminently Newcastle can effectively price Guimaraes out the market should interest materialise. It’s worth remembering they paid a total package of £40m for him. There’s no doubt his value has more than doubled since. It will be one of the shocks of the summer if Guimaraes isn’t still a Newcastle player come the close of the window.”
No arguments here. It would be a massive shock if Liverpool were to bring Bruno in this summer, or even in the future. Having settled on Tyneside over the past 18 months, he’s become untouchable at Newcastle.
That reportedly hasn’t stopped Liverpool from admiring the Brazil international. However, the Reds themselves are said to be aware that they’ve virtually no chance of convincing him to leave.
Even if they were able to turn Bruno’s head, Newcastle are in a really strong position. With three years left on his contract, his price is probably as high as it’ll ever be right now. There’s no way he represents the value Liverpool are looking for in their signings any longer.
Nevertheless, you can perhaps expect the rumours to rumble on until Bruno signs a new contract at Newcastle. Once he does that, the last little shred of hope Liverpool may have will surely disappear once and for all.
Truthfully, that will probably be a good thing. Just like with the sagas of Jude Bellingham and, more topically, Kylian Mbappe, it’s no use lusting after players Liverpool simply can’t afford.
As that superstar duo have done, Bruno will probably join Real Madrid if he ever leaves Newcastle. In terms of Premier League teams, you can’t see the Magpies selling to any of them. Such is his bond with the Geordie fans, perhaps he wouldn’t want that anyway.
