Liverpool have reportedly made an offer for Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, who has been deemed surplus to requirements by Carlo Ancelotti.
The France international could see his minutes limited at the Bernabeu next season, especially with the arrival of Jude Bellingham. Now, his situation has caught the attention of several top clubs.
Liverpool have allegedly made the first move in the battle for Tchouameni. But, Real Madrid certainly won’t let him leave cheaply
The 23-year-old signed for the Spanish giants from Monaco for €80m (£68.5m) last summer. Interestingly, Tchouameni turned down the chance to sign for Liverpool back then.
Since, the Frenchman has made 50 appearances across all competitions for Real Madrid. He is yet to score a goal, but has made four assists.
Although, it is worth noting that a lot of those games saw Tchouameni come off the bench. As mentioned, with the arrival of Bellingham, he could see his minutes diminish even more.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid allow him to leave the Bernabeu this summer, albeit for the right price.
Liverpool bid €55m for Tchouameni
According to reports from Spain (as cited by SPORTbible), Liverpool have made a €55m (£47.1m) offer for Tchouameni.
It’s no secret that Jurgen Klopp is a huge fan of the player. Also, it is widely believed that the manager is keen to bring in another midfielder, after signing Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
So, there is a chance that the report could be accurate. Although, even if it is, the offer won’t be big enough to convince Real Madrid to sell.
The Spanish club’s President Florentino Perez is ‘willing’ to let Tchouameni leave, despite only signing last summer. But, Perez has slapped an €85m (£72.8m) price tag on his head.
But, Tchouameni is not the only midfielder to be linked with the Reds recently. For instance, Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram is one target. But, Klopp seems to be facing difficulties completing the deal at the moment.
Sander Berge, Gabri Veiga and Manu Kone are all other names on Liverpool’s transfer shortlist. So, there is no doubt that they are looking to bring in at least one more midfielder.
With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if the Reds meet Madrid’s £72.8m valuation for Tchouameni. As it stands, their reported opening bid won’t be enough to sign
