Liverpool will reportedly have to pay over £70m if they want to sign Moises Caicedo, with Brighton & Hove Albion increasing the midfielder’s asking price.
According to the Athletic, the Seagulls are unwilling to allow the 21-year-old to leave for the same valuation Caicedo was worth in the January window, where Arsenal failed in two attempts to bring the Ecuador international to north London.
Liverpool have already landed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton this summer in a deal believed to be worth £55m, and the Reds could now move to Caicedo as Jurgen Klopp looks to overhaul his midfield ahead of the new Premier League season.
The South American was one of the breakout names of the 2022/23 campaign, and with Liverpool eager to bring in a new midfielder alongside Mac Allister, Caicedo is an obvious pick given his rare qualities and outstanding potential.
Yet Brighton’s asking price could now be a major stumbling block for Liverpool. With the Reds missing out on UEFA Champions League football, finances are limited, meaning a move for Caicedo could now be in vein based on what the Seagulls now want for their star talent.
Caicedo is firmly on his way to becoming one of the best midfielders in Europe, and with Brighton already losing Mac Allister, the south coast side are within their right to demand what they want for the 21-year-old, especially with Liverpool only having so much to spend.
As a result, the Reds could have to sell before they can make a concrete move for Caicedo, with the Anfield side already looking to offload a number of fringe players to help balance out their payroll as well as finances much-needed additions.
