Liverpool transfer news: A Spanish report has claimed a ‘breakthrough’ for the Reds in their pursuit of Roméo Lavia mi as Jürgen Klopp is ‘offered’ a $90m PSG man.
Liverpool could still have multiple deals to get done this summer depending on what unfolds across the course of the next few days, with Jürgen Klopp and Jörg Schmadtke having much to ponder.
With interest in Fabinho and Jordan Henderson mounting (bids have now been lodged for both), Liverpool might need to find a way of getting two more midfield players through the door, with only a little over three weeks to go until the Reds take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Then there is a need for a central defender as well, with Liverpool needing to make sure that the squad is strong enough in that department despite there being some doubts over the reliability of Joël Matip and Joe Gomez.
The most pressing need, though, is in the center of the pitch. Fabinho, in particular, will be a big loss, as a player who would have been expected to make a substantial number of appearances next season had he still been at the club.
Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, with the focus being on a couple of players with very different levels of experience… and likelihood of moving to Anfield this summer.
Liverpool has made a ‘breakthrough’ in the chase to sign Southampton midfielder Roméo Lavia, according to Spanish newspaper Sport (print edition via Paisley Gates), with Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona all also interested in the 19-year-old.
The report states that Lavia could move for as little as $45m (£35m/€40m), which is around $20m (£15m/€18m) less than the price tag that has been widely suggested.
Liverpool.com says: Given that it looks like both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson will be leaving, the need for a holding midfielder has dramatically increased for Liverpool in recent days. Lavia has admirers but it would be a concern if he was expected to reach the level of Fabinho immediately after arriving given his limited experience.

PSG would demand as much as $90m (£70m/€80m) to let the 30-year-old leave, and the fact that he is that age would suggest that Liverpool would not go for such a signing, despite the player’s experience and quality.
Liverpool.com says: Verratti is a top player but he does not have the best injury record in the world and he would be hugely expensive. He might well fancy a move to Anfield but this seems extremely unlikely, especially at that price.
