Liverpool wants Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, but according to reports, Newcastle United has offered a sensational offer to capture him. As part of Eddie Howe’s summer financial flexing in preparation for Newcastle’s return to the UEFA Champions League, Defensa Central reports that the Magpies have submitted a £68 million bid for the France international. Tchouameni is now one of the targets.
The former AS Monaco star has long been linked with a move to Liverpool and was close to a switch to Anfield last summer before Madrid swoop in and signed Tchouameni for themselves. And this window could now see the midfielder make a move to England via Newcastle
Although Madrid have just announced the signing of Jude Bellingham, Los Blancos have no intention of selling Tchouameni, even with the midfielder struggling to impress in his first season in Spain. And Newcastle’s bid is expected to be shot down.
Indeed, Liverpool have already been linked with another move for Tchouameni this summer as reported by the Mirror. Yet with Newcastle now having an offer on the table for the 23-year-old, the Reds seemingly have little hope of bringing the Frenchman to the Premier League if the Toon see their attempt rejected by Madrid.
Even with the signing of Bellingham, Madrid would have been fools to offload Tchouameni this summer despite offers already from the likes of Newcastle. And Liverpool can take solace in the fact that their English rivals have been shot down in their attempt to recruit the Frenchman.
As we know, Liverpool were eager to sign Tchouameni last summer and missed out on the midfielder after taking too long to get a deal finalised. And seeing the 23-year-old join a Premier League side in Newcastle would have been a wicked blow for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
