Luton Town drop bids for Manchester United to sign Englishman

Luton Town hope for Manchester United green light to sign Tom Heaton

Luton Town are hoping to get the green light for Manchester United to complete a move for Tom Heaton this summer, according to The Sun (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Hatters are interested in getting a hold of the veteran goalkeeper’s signature in the ongoing transfer window. However, the Bedfordshire-based club are waiting for the Red Devils to sign Andre Onana from Inter Milan before making a move.

To the end, once the Old Trafford side will acquire the services of the Cameroonian, the Kenilworth Road side are anticipating a ‘thumbs up’ to sign the 37-year-old.

Luton have been promoted to the Premier League for the first time in their history. They are looking to add two new shot-stoppers to their ranks this summer. Ethan Horvath has returned to Nottingham Forest after being on loan at the Bedfordshire-based club last season.

Heaton is an experienced goalkeeper who made his way through the youth ranks at United. Subsequently, the shot-stopper parted ways with the Red Devils and went on to establish himself at Burnley.

Then, in the summer of 2021, the Old Trafford side signed the English national after he left Aston Villa as a free agent. However, since then, the 37-year-old has hardly made an appearance for us.

Heaton has been a bit-part player for United over the years and has usually been the third choice. The English national has previously found himself behind the likes of David de Gea, Dean Henderson and Martin Dubravka in the pecking order.

Last season, the Spaniard was our number one. But with the 32-year-old’s departure, the English national is one of the few options Erik ten Hag has at his disposal.

Even with Onana’s possible arrival, we will still need a second and third-choice shot-stopper. It remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford side will let Heaton part ways this summer.
