Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has agreed to sign for Besiktas after being released by Liverpool, according to reports – and the Turkish side are aiming to add a Manchester United misfit afterwards.
Oxlade-Chamberlain left Liverpool at the end of his contract earlier in the summer. He has taken the longest of their three released midfielders to find a new club after Naby Keita joined Werder Bremen and James Milner signed for Brighton.
Recently, though, Besiktas entered negotiations with Oxlade-Chamberlain about taking him outside England for the first time in his club career. And now, they have won their battle to convince him.
To put the finishing touches to the move, he will undergo a medical in the coming days. It is not yet clear how long his contract with his new employers will last.
Oxlade-Chamberlain will celebrate his 30th birthday next week and will now be ready to experience a new challenge in the twilight of his career.
He left Liverpool after 146 appearances for the club and 18 goals, and was part of their Premier League title-winning squad in the 2019-20 season. Now, he will have new targets to aim for in Turkey.
Besiktas’ season is already underway, since they have begun their qualification campaign for the 2023-24 Europa Conference League.
Eric Bailly another top target for Besiktas
Their work in the transfer market is also accelerating, since in addition to Oxlade-Chamberlain, they are supposedly showing a strong interest in Eric Bailly from Man Utd.
According to Sports Digitale, Bailly has in fact agreed to a three-year contract with the Turkish Super Lig side, who have identified him as their top target in defence.
