The Blues have been linked with making a swap deal offer to Nottingham Forest for Brennan Johnson, in the hopes of making a move cheaper.
Chelsea’s summer transfer window is continuing to unfold in dramatic fashion as they look to add yet further additions to the squad in the coming weeks.
The Blues spent the earlier half of the market moving players on, with the need to trim the squad down to a manageable size for new boss Mauricio Pochettino. Since then, the focus has shifted towards incomings and the west Londoners have moved aggressively to land their targets.
Moises Caicedo is the latest addition at a British transfer record deal worth £115million, while Romeo Lavia looks close to joining him in midfield after reports claimed he has passed a medical. With the central ranks now taken care of, the next point of interest are the wide areas.
Following their failed attempt to sign Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, football.london understands Chelsea have held initial talks with Nottingham Forest to sign youngster Brennan Johnson. The East Midlands outfit currently value their academy graduate at £50million.
It’s a fee that the Blues may struggle to match at this stage after reports claimed that they have looked to include Trevoh Chalobah in a swap deal to bring the price down. That looks unlikely to happen, with the player reportedly rejecting the move, but there could be other options that may go the other way.
It’s fair to say Marc Cucurella’s £60million move from Brighton hasn’t worked out at all in the past year, with the Spaniard struggling to make an impression. With a limited role in the pipeline for the left-back, it may be best for all parties if a deal is facilitated for him sooner rather than later.
Nottingham Forest are in the market for a left-back, having sounded out Arsenal for Nuno Tavares, though Cucurella could provide a better option to reduce the price for the deal involving Johnson.
Callum Hudson-Odoi
It feels a long time ago that Callum Hudson-Odoi was the subject of keen interest to Bayern Munich; fast-forward a few years, and things haven’t panned out as expected. The youngster is expected to leave Chelsea this summer, with a few teams showing interest in a deal.
Nottingham Forest have been one of those, but they haven’t made the switch, having pursued a move for Anthony Elanga from Manchester United. Hudson-Odoi could still be an option that would allow for a move to be completed that works for everyone involved.
