Nottingham Forest have agreed a fee to sign Gonzalo Montiel from Sevilla despite Fulham making their own attempt to sign him, according to reports.
According to TyC Sports journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Sevilla have accepted an €11m (£9.4m) bid from Nottingham Forest for the full-back, who scored the winning penalty for Argentina in the World Cup final in December, and for his club in the Europa League final in May.
Montiel will travel to England on Monday in order to undergo a medical with his new club. Other sources such as Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic have also been confirming that the right-back is City Ground-bound.
Romano has clarified that Forest are finalising an agreement on personal terms with Montiel. But all three reports have acknowledged he will be arriving for his medical at the start of the new week, and what the transfer fee will be.
TEAMtalk revealed earlier this week that Fulham had also made a bid for Montiel, which was verified by other outlets in his native Argentina too.
But it has now become clear that Forest have beaten the competition for the 26-year-old, who will get to play in the Premier League for the first time as a result.
Previously, he came through the system at River Plate before earning his European move with Sevilla in 2021. He will be leaving the Spanish side after 72 appearances in their colours.
Montiel adds to crowded Forest department
Forest have already reinforced the right-back role this summer by picking up Ola Aina on a free transfer from Torino, while Serge Aurier has earned a contract extension for the 2023-24 campaign.
They also have Neco Williams, Giulian Biancone and Mohamed Drager on the books at right-back, so the addition of another player in the role might imply there could be some movement out of the position too, although it is not yet clear for whom.
On Friday, in their most recent match, Forest used Aurier as their right wing-back and Williams on the left. None of the other names listed were in the squad.
