Medical IN Next Hour: Manchester City hold an interest in £68m player for new midfield and set out medicals….

Manchester City hold an interest in Dani Olmo, but the possibility of the RB Leipzig midfielder joining the club this summer has been categorically ruled out.

City are in the market for new midfielders and attackers this summer following the departures of Ilkay Gundogan and Riyad Mahrez.

RB Leipzig midfielder Olmo is one of the names City had on their shortlist, but having already signed defender Josko Gvardiol from the German club this summer, it looks like they are going to miss out on the Spaniard.

As reported by journalist Christian Falk, RB Leipzig director Oliver Mintzlaff has ruled out Olmo leaving the club this summer.

No matter who is interested, he’s here and he’s staying.”

Hopes were raised last week when Leipzig manager Marco Rose left open the possibility of the £68.5 million rated midfielder leaving the club.

However, the player himself played down rumours by insisting he is fully focused on the upcoming Bundesliga season.

City move on

Olmo is a player that Pep Guardiola greatly admires, but City have seemingly moved on to other targets.

Though City’s interest in West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta has cooled, the Premier League champions look set to sign winger Jeremy Doku and midfielder Matheus Nunes.

21-year-old Doku will join City in a £55.5m move from Stade Rennes, while the treble winners hope to secure Nunes for a fee of around 42.7m plus add-ons.

Nunes’ arrival – plus the fact Bernardo Silva has signed a new contract – means City won’t have to worry about missing out on Olmo.
