Jamie Newton is expected to join Nottingham Forest.
The 18-year-old, who trained at the Rangers academy, appears to be headed to Forest.
The Daily Record claims that Forest is prepared to finish the capture and bring the player inside.
Newton will undoubtedly join the club’s academy, and this transaction is most likely the result of new academy chief Craig Mulholland.
He joined Forest following Ross Wilson’s appointment as Chief Football Officer, and he is now planning a raid on Rangers in search of a young player.
With Newton gaining experience at that level, the young Teddy Bears team played in the Lowland Leagues the previous season.
With Newton, the Rangers were pushed into a small corner. Since his current contract is set to expire in May, Forest has moved quickly.
In the field, Newton is a defender who can play on the left side of a central defensive unit or as a left-back.
Forest has an excellent academy ranked in Category One. Newton will therefore believe that, with a few impressive performances at the academy level, his path to the senior ranks may be straightforward.
It will be interesting to watch what he does with his future. Given that Mulholland took over for the illustrious Gary Brazil, there was some controversy surrounding his appointment.
