Manu Kone has been a player of interest for Liverpool this summer, however Borussia Monchengladbach chief Roland Virkus has detailed one condition that they would entertain talks
Borussia Monchengladbach managing director Roland Virkus has confirmed that Liverpool target Manu Kone will stay put unless a “crazy offer” is tabled.
The France U21 international became subject to interest from Liverpool when he was named among their list of candidates this summer. Jurgen Klopp was looking to reinforce his engine room at the beginning of the summer, three of his options would become free agents upon expiry of their respective contracts.
Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were introduced as part of the restructure, however the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have prompted the need for further business.
Kone suffered a knee injury during France’s U21 European Championships campaign in Georgia and Romania in July, seemingly curtailing links. He was among the likes of Ryan Gravenberch and French teammate Khephren Thuram who became prospective players for the Reds.
However, the Gladbach chief has confirmed that Kone will not be leaving BORUSSIA-Park this summer, unless a substantial bid is tabled for the midfielder.
“We have decided that Manu Koné will stay with Borussia,” Virkus said. “Of course, you can never rule out anything in football. If there would be a crazy offer, we would have to talk again.
But actually the goal – and this has also been discussed with the player – is that he stays here first and gets back to full fitness.
“Manu sees that something is happening in Gladbach at the moment. And he might want to be a part of it.”
In recent months, Romeo Lavia has been a player of interest for Liverpool. The Reds have had three bids rejected by Southampton for the 19-year-old, and in recent hours, Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo has been subject to an approach from the Reds.
