Lakers officially declare the arrival of the $114 million Hawks star in a blockbuster trade.

The Los Angeles Lakers are rumored to be considering trades before the NBA deadline on February 8, 2024. The Lakers are the front-runners to sign Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray, according to the most recent Vegas odds provided by Bovada Sportsbook.

After the trade deadline, the odds are stated “if not [on the] Atlanta Hawks.” With odds of -115, Los Angeles is currently the favorite; the Knicks are a close second at +105. The Raptors, 76ers, Thunder, and Heat are all tied with +950 odds, well below the field. Vegas is probably reacting to the Shams Charania report from The Athletic that said the Lakers were interested in Murray.

“One more person to watch out for.” Lakers officially declare the arrival of the $114 million Hawks star in a blockbuster trade.stated, “I’m told that Hawks guard Dejounte Murray is a possible target for the Lakers,” on a December 26, 2023, episode of FanDuel’s “Run It Back.

“A reasonable salary to be bringing in when you already have LeBron James and Anthony Davis on your books,” Charania stated, adding that “Dejounte Murray still has four years, $120 million of an extension that kicks in next season.

Murray, who spent two years as an All-Star in San Antonio, is currently in his second season with the Hawks. Murray has not been able to successfully partner with fellow star guard Trae Young for Atlanta.

Murray, 27, is still performing at a high level. In his first 30 starts of the year, he is shooting 37.4% from long range and averaging 20.2 points, 5.3 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. The problem is that Atlanta has only won 12 of those 30 games.

With three first-round picks and a pick swap in 2022, the Hawks gave up a lot for Murray, so it is difficult to see Atlanta making a deal without Austin Reaves, the 25-year-old shooting guard for the Lakers.
