Vibes are not great in the New York Mets organization at the moment as the team has limped to a 26-35 start due to so many of their high-profile players having down years up to this point, and the front office is continuing to shuffle the deck to try to get the train back on the tracks.
Two unsurprising roster moves were made official today, and Mets fans will be hoping some dead weight was shed and will lead to better results out of the newly available roster space.
Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo shared that the Mets have released catcher Omar Narvaez and reliever Jorge Lopez after designating both for assignment last week, and the two will both become free agents.
Narvaez was in the second year of a 2-year, $15 million deal and followed up a disappointing first year in New York with an even worse showing this year, slashing just .154/.191/.185 and creating a black hole in the lineup.
Narvaez made an All-Star team in 2021 with the Milwaukee Brewers, but his production fell off a cliff immediately after coming to New York.
Lopez’s tenure ended in much more dramatic fashion, as he was DFA’d immediately after getting ejected in a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers last week where he responded by firing his glove into the stands and doubling down on his actions in his postgame media availability.
