Mets President Officially Announces Two Roster Moves, Including Call-Up of Another Superstar
In a move that has excited fans across the league, New York Mets President of Baseball Operations David Stearns officially announced two major roster changes today—one of which includes the highly anticipated call-up of another rising superstar from the team’s talent-rich farm system.
During a morning press conference at Citi Field, Stearns confirmed that the Mets are calling up 21-year-old phenom outfielder Luis Domínguez, widely regarded as one of the top prospects in baseball. Domínguez has been on a tear at Triple-A Syracuse this season, slashing .327/.414/.592 with 12 home runs and 38 RBIs in just 44 games. His combination of power, speed, and plate discipline has drawn comparisons to a young Carlos Beltrán.
“We’ve been closely monitoring Luis’s progress, and we feel the time is right for him to make the jump,” Stearns said. “He’s earned this opportunity, and we believe he can make an immediate impact at the big-league level.”
Domínguez’s promotion comes at a crucial time for the Mets, who are battling injuries and inconsistency in the outfield. With Brandon Nimmo sidelined due to a minor hamstring strain, the team needed a spark both offensively and defensively—and Domínguez appears ready to deliver just that.
The second move announced by Stearns involved optioning struggling reliever Grant Hartley back to Triple-A. Hartley, 27, has posted a 6.75 ERA in 14 appearances this season and has struggled with command, issuing 13 walks in just 16 innings. The Mets plan to give him time to regroup and refine his mechanics in a lower-pressure environment.
“We still believe in Grant’s stuff,” Stearns emphasized. “But right now, consistency is key, and we think a stint in Syracuse will allow him to reset and come back stronger.”
To make room on the 40-man roster for Domínguez, the Mets designated veteran utility infielder Matt Reynolds for assignment. The club praised Reynolds for his professionalism and contributions, though his limited offensive production (.189/.257/.243) made him the odd man out.
Fans will get their first look at Domínguez in a Mets uniform tonight, as he’s expected to start in center field and bat sixth in the lineup against the San Francisco Giants.
