Most of the Miami Valley is under a heat advisory because of the dangerously high temperatures expected throughout the week.
As reported on News Center 7 Daybreak, starting today, for the next two weeks Rumpke crews will be collecting trash earlier in the day.
“The high temperatures predicted for the upcoming weeks make our job more dangerous. To help protect our team members from heat-related illnesses and ensure customers still receive timely collection, we must adjust our operations,” Operations Manager Ben Rumpke said
News Center 7 also talked to Bladecutters, a landscaping company, who are also starting their days earlier.
They said once the temperatures get into the mid 90′s it’s too dangerous to be out working, even with the safety precautions they currently have.
“We just monitor everybody in the supervisors on each crew just keeps a look on it and everybody makes sure everybody takes plenty of breaks and stays hydrated,” John Scott, the president of Bladecutters said.
For the next couple of weeks, Rumpke is asking everyone to bring their trash out at night so you don’t miss a pickup.
On Saturday, June 15, just after 11 p.m., deputies were called to a Tampa residence in response to gunshot reports.
The caller, subsequently identified as 48-year-old Rebecca Ann Themelis, told deputies that her 51-year-old husband, Christos Byron Themelis, had been shot. Talking with the dispatch centre over the phone, deputies reported that many further bullets were fired.
Upon their arrival, deputies saw Christos Alexander Themelis Jr., a 19-year-old suspect, and Rebecca Themelis outside the residence.
Officials said the suspect then shot his mother in the back of the head and then began shooting at law enforcement officers, wounding one deputy in the leg.

“The monster we encountered this evening is responsible for not only injuring our deputy but also killing his own mother and father,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “Our deputies responded to a chaotic scene and immediately put themselves in harm’s way to protect our community. Without our deputy’s quick and skillful response, an entire neighborhood would have been in danger.”
