Michael Tonkin has officially appointed to contract by the Mets.

Due to his early-season troubles, reliever Michael Tonkin has been designated for assignment by the Mets.

When Julio Teheran’s deal became official, the decision was made to DFA Tonkin in order to make room for him on the roster.

After throwing two hitless innings on Opening Day, Tonkin, who had secured one of the final slots in the Mets bullpen coming out of spring training, has taken a lot of hits in his last two appearances.

On April 1, in 1.0 innings, he gave up two hits and five runs (all unearned) against the Detroit Tigers.

Tonkin gave up four hits and three runs (two earned) in his inning of work in Game 1 of the Mets’ doubleheader against the Tigers on Thursday. It was the pivotal top of the 11th inning.
