Minnesota Vikings officially declared a potential larger strategy to acquire their long-term Kirk Cousins replacement

As part of a potential larger strategy to acquire their long-term Kirk Cousins replacement, the Minnesota Vikings have taken steps to guarantee themselves another first-round pick in the NFL Draft held next month.

As free agency got underway this week, the four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Kirk Cousins signed a contract with the Atlanta Falcons, terminating his six-year relationship with the Vikings. The Vikings were forced to watch.

Although Minnesota had made it known that they intended to sign Cousins again this year, they will now need to fill their quarterback room for the 2024 campaign.

Sam Darnold, a former first-round choice of the New York Jets who signed with the San Francisco 49ers, was the first to do that. He is not expected to be a long-term starter for the Vikings because he only signed a one-year contract with the team.

It appears that a plan is taking shape because the team has now acquired the Houston Texans’ 2024 first-round pick (number 24 overall), along with their 2024 second- and sixth-round selections (number 42 and 188), as well as a 2025 second-rounder, according to the NFL Network.

Right now, the Vikings are ranked 11th and 23rd overall.
