NBA Insider: Klay Thompson officially declared his decision of signing with the Miami Heat in the upcoming summer.
If Klay Thompson decides to leave the Golden State Warriors as a free agent this upcoming offseason, there are reportedly a number of teams interested in signing him. Among them is the Miami Heat.
The Heat, Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Clippers, and Los Angeles Lakers are the teams that could target the five-time All-Star, with other teams potentially involved as well, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.
On “The Pat McAfee Show,” Charania stated, “He’s set to be a free agent at the end of the season.” I anticipate that he will test the market based on everything. I’d anticipate both Florida squads. I’d anticipate both Los Angeles teams. Klay Thompson might be of interest to a few East Coast teams, in my opinion.
“As of right now, he is going to test the market, barring a miraculous extension. And I believe the Warriors have realized that his future is uncertain just for the upcoming season because they chose not to extend him.
The Heat were rumored to be interested in veteran players Bradley Beal and Damian Lillard during the previous offseason. But those two guards ended up somewhere else (Beal with the Phoenix Suns, and Lillard with the Milwaukee Bucks), so Miami’s quest was left unfinished.
Several NBA executives have stated that Miami may be looking to reorganize its roster in the upcoming offseason. It is purportedly partially related to Jimmy Butler’s age, as he will turn 35 before the upcoming season. Thompson, on the other hand, turned 34 this month.
Butler has a deal with Miami that runs through 2024–2025, with a player option for 2025–2026. The Warriors reportedly extended a contract to Thompson, but he turned it down. After this season, he will be free to sign with any team.
Delon Wright, a seasoned guard who has agreed to a buyout with the Washington Wizards, is reportedly set to join the Heat. Though far from the high-profile addition that Thompson would be for the following season, he is anticipated to contribute some veteran depth for this one.
