New York Mets insider claims the team is unfortunately done making moves this winter

A brand new update on the New York Mets making more roster upgrades this winter will disappoint their frustrated fanbase. The Mets 2023 campaign was a disaster. After reaching the playoffs and winning 101 games the previous season, many of the team’s top players had disappointing campaigns or were hampered by injuries. It led the team to shockingly become sellers at the trade deadline and move aces, Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander. In the trades for Verlander and Scherzer, the organization acquired elite prospects from the Texas Rangers and Houston Astros farm systems. However, they also agreed to take on most of the remaining money left on the aging pitchers’ contracts. That has seemingly been a huge factor in the organization going bargain shopping this offseason since they still have a huge payroll for 2024 despite no longer having the expensive pair of pitchers. Outside of making a run at Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Mets signings of pitchers Luis Severino, Sean Manaea, and Adrian Houser, as well as bench players Harrison Bader and Joey Wendle, were all cost-effective moves that didn’t blow Mets fan’s hair back. Nevertheless, they did address holes they had ahead of theThe Amazin’s could still use some help at third base and more power from the designated hitter position, but don’t count on them adding sluggers of the caliber of JD Martinez or Jorge Soler. “A sense is taking hold inside the organization that the roster looks quite close to what it will be when pitchers and catchers report to Port St. Lucie on Feb. 14,” according to SNY New York Mets insider Andy Martino’s report on Thursday.

Marinto says that lefty reliever Jake Diekman might be the team’s final addition this winter. While adding Martinez is still a possibility, he would need to significantly lower his asking price.

According to the MLB reporter, the team is saving between $10 and $15 million that they hope to use before this summer’s MLB trade deadline.
