NEWS UPDATE: The New York Mets reportedly declared a deal that was reportedly very expensive to fix.
One additional slugger in the middle of the lineup would be helpful for the New York Mets.
Since the completion of the disastrous 2023 campaign, New York has made some progress. David Stearns, a former executive with the Milwaukee Brewers, was hired by the Mets to serve as president of baseball operations, and he has strengthened the team.
Rather than making bold, large expenditures, the Mets have concentrated on modest deals to players with upside. Even if New York is currently playing better on paper, the team could still use one more big bat in the middle of the lineup to help them contend for a berth in the National League Wild Card.
J.D. Martinez, a six-time All-Star, has been linked to New York several times and is still available. Martinez, who was an All-Star for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2023, is still without a new team.
Despite being 36 years old, he still has a lot of pop in his bat and has achieved success in big markets. Martinez has 33 home runs and 103 RBIs in 113 games during his last season with Los Angeles.
