In a recent report, The Athletic revealed that Newcastle United are locked in a three-way battle for Ajax ace Mohammed Kudus who wants to leave in this off-season. It has been claimed that the Magpies will face competition in the form of Manchester United and Arsenal in the race to sign the Ghana international this summer.
Kudus’ Decent Numbers In Dutch Football This Season
Kudus is enjoying a fine campaign at the Dutch club after putting in a handful of impressive displays for them at the attacking end of the pitch. The Ghanaian sensation has done well to score 18 goals and pick up six assists in 41 matches for Ajax this season across multiple competitions.
The 22-year-old has been a consistent performer in the final third based on his average of 2.3 shots, 0.9 key passes and 2.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Dutch Eredivisie. He has also been careful with his ball distribution in the opponent’s half as he has completed 87.4% of his attempted passes in the Dutch first division (stats via whoscored
Is Kudus A Good Choice For Newcastle United Head Coach Eddie Howe?
Kudus excels at creating space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. The Ghana international can shoot the ball with power from close range and can be a prolific finisher in the final third when he is playing well on the field. He is a good dribbler with the ball as well.
Kudus is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also play as a wide player on either flank or operate as a centre-forward if asked to do so.We can expect him to bring more firepower to Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe’s frontline. The Ajax sensation is good enough to nail down a regular starting spot at St. James’ Park next season and could help the Magpies compete in the UEFA Champions League if they can clinch a top-four spot in the Premier League later this month. Hence, Kudus would be a great choice for the Tyneside club to consider this summer.
Kudus is under contract at the Dutch club until the summer of 2025. However, he has his heart set on a move elsewhere this summer which could open the door for the Magpies to recruit him.
