As he gets ready to make his NBA All-Star Game debut, Miami’s Bam Adebayo is about to reach a new milestone.
It was announced on Saturday that Adebayo will start for the Eastern Conference in Sunday night’s All-Star game in place of Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid. Embiid, the two-time scoring champion and current MVP, will miss games because of a knee injury.
Doc Rivers, the coach of the Bucks, who is in charge of the Eastern Conference team for the All-Star game, decided to start Adebayo.
Adebayo was previously chosen as a reserve by the coaches for the All-Star squad for this season. His selection signifies his continued excellence, mirroring his accomplishments from 2020 and 2023, including winning the skills competition during the 2020 All-Star weekend. He has now surpassed Dwyane Wade in 2016 as the seventh Miami Heat player to start in an All-Star Game.
Shaquille O’Neal, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Alonzo Mourning, and Anthony Mason are other Heat players who have started in the All-Star Game; in previous games, Mason and Bosh both filled in for injuries.
