NEWS NOW: An ”excellent player edging closer to Atletico Madrid switch

Atletico Madrid are closing in on the signatures of 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

According to a report by Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are keen on having Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in their ranks. The Colchoneros are keen on strengthening their midfield ahead of next season and have their eyes set on the Danish international. Tottenham want €35-40 million to sell the Dane, with talks between the two clubs progressing well.

Atletico Madrid might have finished third in La Liga, but they were never really in the title race. Diego Simeone’s team were not at their best last season, and they want to reinforce their team to ensure they can fight for important titles next season.

Simeone’s priority is to bolster his midfield and he is keen on having Hojbjerg in his ranks. The 27-year-old would perfectly fit into his system. He is good on the ball, exceptional in the air and has great positional awareness. His arrival will surely bolster their squad. And, they have been making moves to ensure they land him at the club in the coming weeks.

Hojbjerg joined Tottenham back in the summer of 2020 from Southampton. He has gone from strength to strength since making the move and has featured in a total of 145 matches. The Danish international has also contributed towards 26 goals.

As far as last season is concerned, the 27-year-old midfielder was involved in a total of 44 matches, and he was on the pitch for close to 3,900 minutes. Hojbjerg managed to score five goals and even bagged seven assists last time out. Despite being an important part of their first team, his future is uncertain at this point in time.

While there are still two years left on his deal with the London club, a move to Spain looks like a real possibility. The player is keen on the move and has already agreed on personal terms with Simeone’s team.
