Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to sign Porto striker Mehdi Taremi and his final Porto game could be just days away.
Talks for Mehdi Taremi to leave Porto for a move to Tottenham Hotspur are thought to have accelerated.
That is according to a report from Portuguese newspaper Record, who claim that Taremi’s farewell to Porto is now ‘in sight’.
It’s stated that talks with Tottenham have ‘intensified’ and Taremi could be just days away from leaving.
The report claims that Taremi’s final game for Porto could be the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira clash with Benfica on Wednesday night.
That’s basically Portugal’s equivalent of the Community Shield with league champions Benfica taking on cup winners Porto.
Record seem to believe that a move to Tottenham is so advanced that Taremi may use this game as a big final goodbye to Porto.
Maybe there is something in that; Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reported over the weekend that Tottenham had made contact with Porto over a deal for Taremi.
Di Marzio suggested that Tottenham were offering €24million (£20.75million) where as Porto want €30million (£26million).
Tottenham are still a little way off a deal but there appears to be a real chance for Taremi to head to North London.
Who is Tottenham Hotspur target Mehdi Taremi?
Taremi isn’t a household name in English football but he has been a hero for Porto.
The 31-year-old joined from Rio Ave back in August 2020 and has now been Porto’s top goalscorer three seasons in a row.
Taremi’s goal record for Porto stands at a ridiculous 80 goals in 147 games, whilst he has even racked up 49 assists.
Last season, Taremi smashed 31 goals and 14 assists in all competitions.
Taremi has shown the ability to be a physical front man but also create from deep, which may remind some fans of Harry Kane.
The Iran international isn’t really one for the future at 31 but Tottenham may believe that he can make the jump to the Premier League.
Taremi even scored twice against England at the World Cup in Qatar and drew praise from Rio Ferdinand.
Ferdinand hailed Taremi as a player who ‘knows how to score’ whilst speaking to BBC Sport, stating that he is a ‘hybrid between a nine and a 10’.
Tottenham may hope to push through a deal this week, with all eyes then on Porto’s clash with Benfica to see if Taremi gives an emotional farewell.
