The Miami Heat have added another young player to the Sioux Falls Skyforce, their G League affiliate.
Josh Christopher, a former guard for the Houston Rockets, has joined the Heat, as per Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype, who broke the news first.
Christopher spent the previous two seasons with Houston before being dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies in July of 2023. After being waived by the Grizz on October 1, he quickly inked a two-way contract with the Utah Jazz.
But after things didn’t work out in Utah, Christopher moved to South Dakota, where the Heat have drafted a number of young players and developed them into reliable rotation players.
Christopher spent his first two years in Houston playing in 138 games (four starts), after being selected by the Rockets in the first round out of Arizona State (at pick No. 24 overall) in 2021. In 15.4 minutes per game, he averaged 6.9 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists.
Despite having a poor 3-point percentage of just 27.7% during his two seasons with the Rockets, he is a big, athletic player who can make plays at 6’5″ and 215 pounds. Even at the age of 22, he still has a lot of time to improve as a rebounder and ball handler.
Christopher averaged 14.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.5 steals, and 1.4 assists in 15 games during his rookie campaign at ASU. In his only collegiate season, 2020–21, he shot 30.5% from beyond the arc and 46.9% from the field.
