Nottingham Forest midfielder Jonjo Shelvey is set to join Rizespor on loan until the end of the season. The Reds have been trying all summer to move the player on after a disagreement with Steve Cooper.
According to John Percy of The Telegraph, the 31-year-old is now set to move to Turkey ahead of Friday’s deadline. The player has made just eight appearances for the Reds since signing in January.
Forest have been hoping to shift Shelvey all summer. He took no part in pre-season training with the Reds and he spent the close season playing friendlies with the B-Team.
Forest have now named their squad for the forthcoming campaign. Five players have been named who count as under-21 stars so essentially, Forest have a realistic 30-man squad.
Shelvey has proved a disastrous signing for Forest. He fell out with Cooper ahead of a 3-2 defeat at Anfield last April when Shelvey took offence to only being named on the substitutes bench.
Now, the player will hope to rebuild his career and get back to playing regular football. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the player but this is a masterstroke by the people behind the scenes at Forest.
Shelvey set to leave Forest for Turkey
Shelvey earns about £70,000-a-week at Forest and frankly, it looked as though they were lumbered with him. Now, however, it looks as though the player has got a way out.
Forest signed a plethora of players in the summer. A total of 13 new signings arrived and it was no surprise to see Shelvey omitted from the 25-man squad when it was named.
The Reds have to learn from this transfer. It never looked as though it would prove to be a useful one from the outset and hopefully, this deal can get over the line before Friday’s deadline.
