Ben Parker has told LS11 that Georginio Rutter has greatly impressed him behind the scenes by learning English without doing lessons – and says his improved confidence is showing, in a Leeds United shirt.
Rutter, 21, now has four goals and assists in seven games for Leeds this season – with every outing an improvement on the last. He deserved a goal against Watford on Saturday, during our excellent 3-0 win.
But he did lay on one of the best assists the Championship will see this season, going round a number of Watford players before sliding in Jaidon Anthony to score. It has been a rapid rise, after a slow start.
Hardly his fault. Victor Orta chose to spend a huge amount of cash on Rutter, but it was the wrong move for what Leeds needed at the time. New country, new language, new managers, relegation battle.

It did not work, unsurprisingly. But Rutter has come back like a new animal and is starting to show why Leeds made the move to sign him. Parker says Rutter has learnt English in the summer, without lessons.
Confidence is huge. Coming to a club who were struggling, fighting for survival, changing managers, didn’t speak English. I said to him a few weeks ago, ‘your English is really good, have you had lessons?’
“He said no, he knew the basics, without lessons, he’s learned English just being around the guys. Full credit. Everything has come together. Smile is so infectious, brilliant kid. Starting to see the best of him.”
Parker: Leeds star Rutter has learnt English without any lessons

The stark contrast between a player that Sam Allardyce completely disbanded during the last four Premier League games, and the player we are seeing this season – is incredible. Two different players.
Rutter is a player full of confidence. As Parker says, that smile is lighting up Elland Road. He is a massive talent and the way he has improved per game, it’s exciting to see how he will fare for the rest of the year.
