Talk out of the Blazers camp is that wantaway star Damian Lillard would have been happy to stay if the Portland team signed Victor Wembanyama as the first-round overall pick.
Lillard has been looking for a trade for three months now, but the Trailblazers have set an extremely high price tag on his services, with the Miami Heat seemingly out of reach.
The Toronto Raptors are the latest team to linked with the point guard.
According to Sean Highkin, speaking on The Raptors Show with Will Lou, “If they [Blazers] got the number one pick Dame [Lillard] would be good. He would have been cool playing with Wemby [Wembanyama]. I have that on pretty good authority”.
Insiders within the NBA have said Lillard will be traded before October 2nd, but the destination is a big secret. The Bucks are also in the mix, while the names of the Celtics, 76ers and Bulls have also been tossed around.
Lillard is keen for a move to Miami as he says the team as real title contenders, and joining up with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo has real attraction.
The seven-time NBA All-Star was picked as the sixth overall pick in 2012 and has been a consistent star in the Blazers team.
The Heat have reportedly offered two first round picks and a trade for shooter Tyler Herro, but that has been rebuffed.
Whether Wembanyama could have swayed Lillard”s mind to remain is up for debate, where he is going is definitely in the air, and the Blazers will want to milk as much as they can for the 33-year-old.
