Harry Kane was reportedly open to making the move to Manchester United on a free transfer in 2024 before joining Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur over the summer.
The England captain’s future was the subject of much speculation during the recent market, with Man United believed to have been keen to sign him earlier in the window.
The Red Devils ultimately moved for Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta BC, though, with Kane joining Bayern from Tottenham in a big-money deal.
According to United Confidential, the 30-year-old would have waited until next summer to join Man United on a free transfer, had he been given assurances over a switch to Old Trafford.
Kane was allegedly keen to remain in the Premier League and would have been willing to see out the final year of his contract ahead of a switch to Manchester.
However, the Englishman was not offered any guarantees over a future move to Man United, which led to him joining Bayern on a four-year contract.
The Red Devils reportedly could not afford Kane’s transfer fee or wages this summer, while Hojlund quickly became the club’s leading target in the final third of the field.
The forward has been in strong form at the start of his Bayern career, scoring four goals in five appearances for the Munich giants in all competitions.
Kane will now come face-to-face with Man United on Wednesday evening, with Bayern hosting the 20-time English champions in the group stage of the Champions League.
