21-year-old Albanian international Asllani decided to stay at Inter this summer.
There was interest in the Nerazzurri midfielder’s signature. Reportedly both of Sassuolo and Fiorentina had tried to sign Asllani right up until deadline day.
But in the end, the player reportedly rejected both of these possible destinations.
Instead, Asllani stayed at Inter, the club that he signed for from Empoli last summer.
According FCIN, part of the reason that Asllani was not convinced by either La Viola or the Neroverdi is that he would prefer a return to his former team Empoli.
And the outlet report that that move could end up materializing, even as early as January.
Inter Midfielder Kristjan Asllani Could Return To Empoli In January
Inter travel to Tuscany to face Empoli in Serie A tomorrow.
Asllani, in all likelihood, will not start against his old club. Hakan Calhanoglu is fit again and should regain his spot at the base of midfield immediately.
Asllani had started in the Turk’s absence against Real Sociedad in Inter’s Champions League group stage opener.
It was not the most auspicious of displays from the 21-year-old in his first start this season.
Asllani came off for Davide Frattesi early in the second half of that match.
There remains a lingering sense that the Albanian does not have the trust of Inter coach Simone Inzaghi.
Therefore, the next few months could be crucial for Asllani. The 21-year-old will certainly get chances to prove himself.
But if these opportunities are too few and far between, or if Asllani does not find form, he could leave as early as during the January transfer window.
Particularly with Davy Klaassen having arrived on the summer deadline day, there is competition for places.
And, FCIN note, Aurelio Andreazzoli is back on the Empoli bench.
The veteran coach had been something of a mentor for Asllani during the Albanian’s time at Empoli. So he could very well convince the player to make the return.
