Nadiem Amiri has been left out of Bayer Leverkusen’s Europa League squad as a result of his transfer saga with Leeds United in the summer.
That is according to German outlet Kicker, who report Amiri’s exclusion is a ‘consequence of his grotesque back and forth’ with the Whites in the final two weeks of the window.
Kicker add that from a purely sporting basis, Amiri is among the 23 strongest players at Leverkusen, and so there is clearly a deeper reason for him to be left out.
It is said that both manager Xabi Alonso and sporting director Simon Rolfes have questioned Amiri’s commitment to the club after the way he conducted himself in the window.
Amiri changed his mind on a move to Leeds on three occasions, even making the trip to West Yorkshire in the final week of the window, before it fell through once again, as per Phil Hay.
Amiri left out of Leverkusen Europa League squad due to Leeds saga
The 26-year-old is likely to see game time hard to come by at Leverkusen this season with Kicker reporting that his behaviour was indeed a factor in this latest decision.
Not only that, but Amiri has also played just one minute of action in the Bundesliga across their opening three matches, showing just how far down the pecking order he now is.
Daniel Farke earmarked Amiri as the number 10 he wanted to add to his squad in the final two weeks of the window, with Leeds having a £5 million offer accepted by Leverkusen.
Amiri and Leeds then endured an incredible back and forth with one day the deal looking on, before the next it was off again.
As proven in the last 12 months, Leeds will be better off without players like Amiri and he will now have to face the consequences at Leverkusen of how he acted in the summer.
