Nottingham Forest fought off competition from Manchester City to sign Murillo in the summer. The Reds performer was handed another chance to start for Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace.
Murillo didn’t disappoint. He showed the swashbuckling panache of a seasoned Premier League centre-back and almost opened his account after a jinxing run.
Now, according to The Athletic, the Reds had to fight hard to sign the uncompromising centre-back. City considered making a move after closely monitoring his progress.
Manchester City wanted Murillo before Forest pounced
This is quite something. Forest signed the player from Corinthians. He came through an academy that takes great pride in the success stories that come through the academy.
Forest paid just £10.4 million for Murillo during the summer transfer window. That already feels like a steal for the Reds and in two games he showcased real class.
City have a plethora of world-class talent at their disposal. As a result, perhaps Murillo has made the right decision to sign for Forest given that the Reds have already handed him a chance to play.
More to come from quality Murillo
It’s been some start to life at the City Ground for the young talent. At 21-years-old, he looks like becoming a really good player for Forest and there is definitely more to come.
With other defenders in the squad, Murillo will have to work hard to stay in the Forest team. It was an easy call to include him against Palace, with Moussa Niakhate serving a one-match suspension.
Now, Murillo will feel that this is his shirt to lose. The Forest defender will feel he’s done enough to continue starting games and he will hope to get even better as the season progresses.
