James Tavernier admits Philippe Clement is already installing ‘confidence’ in the Rangers players every day as they target a Europa League win at Sparta Prague.
The Light Blues skipper and a host of his team-mates have enjoyed great success in the competition over the years including that famous run all the way to the final in Seville which ended in heartbreaking circumstances with Bundesliga side Frankfurt coming out on top in a penalty shootout.
Michael Beale started the season in the dugout and after an excellent matchday one win over Real Betis at Ibrox, Rangers suffered a horror defeat to group bottom seeds Aris Limassol in a performance that was well below par from Tavernier and Co. Steven Davis was in the dugout on an interim basis for that one but with the new manager in the door and already putting his stamp on things after a 4-0 debut weekend win over Hibs, the confidence going into the showdown on Thursday night is at a higher level.
It’s an opposition the Light Blues are familiar with as it was the first team Giovanni van Bronckhorst faced in his stint in charge after returning to the club following Steven Gerrard’s departure. They had lost the away clash in the section but gained payback at home and that secured a knockout spot and the beginning of that incredible run to the showpiece in Spain.
